The Creation
1In the beginning, Elohim formed the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth became formless and empty, darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of Elohim moved over the waters.
3 And Elohim said, “Let there be light,” and light came to be. 4 Elohim noticed that the light was good, and he divided the light from the darkness. 5 He named the light day, and the darkness he named night. And there was evening and there was morning—this was the first day.
6 And Elohim said, “Let there be a division between the waters, dividing water from water.” 7 So Elohim formed the division and divided the water under the division from the water above it. And it was done. 8 Elohim named the division sky. And there was evening and there was morning—this was the second day.
9 And Elohim said, “Let the water that is under the sky gather to one place, allowing dry ground to appear.” And it was done. 10 Elohim named the dry ground land and the gathered waters he named seas. Elohim noticed that it was good. 11 Elohim said, “Let the land grow vegetation; seed-bearing plants and trees on the land to bear fruit with seed in it, according to their own kinds.” And it was done. 12 The Land grew vegetation; plants bearing seed as to their own kinds and trees bearing seed as to their own kinds. Elohim noticed that it was good. 13And there was evening and there was morning—this was the third day.
14 Elohim said, “Let there be lights in the division of the sky to divide the day from the night and allow them to serve for signs, marking seasons and days and years, 15 and allowing them to be lights in the division of the sky, giving light on the earth.” And it was done. 16 Elohim formed two great lights—the greater light governing the day and the lesser light governing the night. He also made the starts. 17 Elohim placed them in the division of the sky, giving light on the earth, 18 governing the day and the night, dividing the light from darkness. And Elohim noticed that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning—this was the fourth day.
20 Elohim said, “Let the water swarm with living creatures, allowing the birds to fly above the earth across the sky.” 21 Thus Elohim formed the creatures of the sea and all living and moving things with which the waters swarm with, as to their own kinds and all winged birds as to their own kind. And Elohim noticed that it was good. 22 Elohim blessed them saying, “Be fruitful and grow in number and fill the water in the seas and allow the birds to grow on the earth.” 23 And there was evening and there was morning—this was the fifth day.
24 And Elohim said, “Allow the land to grow living creatures as to their own kinds; cattle, creatures that move on the ground and wild animals, all to their own kinds.” And it was done. 25 Elohim formed the wild animals as to their own kinds, the cattle as to their own kinds, and all the creatures that move on the ground as to their own kinds. And Elohim noticed that it was good. 26 Elohim said, “Allow us to make man in our own image, in our own likeness, and allow them to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the cattle, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move on the ground. 27 Elohim formed man in his own image, in the image of Elohim he formed him; male and female he created them.
28 Elohim blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and grow in number, filling the earth and subduing it, ruling over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over all living creatures that move on the ground.”
29 Then Elohim said, “I give you all seed-bearing plants on the whole earth and all trees that has fruit within itself. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all creatures which move on the ground—all that has the breath of life within itself—I give each green plant for food.” And it was done. 31 Elohim noticed all that he had formed, and it was very good. There was evening and there was morning—this was the sixth day.
