Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt Part 3 of 3 *June 29, 2010*
Luke 12:15
Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own,”
Not much has changed since Jesus followed those words up with another warning in Luke 12:21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
With all of the choices at our disposal we need to consider how and where we are spending our money;
Burning; Are you making an offering to God with your first fruits? Do you live according to a responsible budget? Are you generous with what you have to give? Is there God honoring balance between your needs and wants? Are you content with what God has given you or are you always chasing more of the latest and greatest? Are material possessions what you go to work for, or your families well being? Are you a good example for your children, will they want more and more of the world, or more and more of Him? Does money, or thinking about money dominate your thoughts?
We can chase the latest and greatest for the rest of our lives but none of it will add to our testimony when we face Judgement. Consider a few contrasts;
Job 2:20 They were always greedy and never satisfied.Nothing remains of all the things they dreamed about.
Isaiah 56:11 Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied.They are ignorant shepherds,all following their own path and intent on personal gain.
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
1 Chronicles 29:16 “O Lord our God, even this material we have gathered to build a Temple to honor your holy name comes from you! It all belongs to you!
Proverbs 8:11 For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it.
Proverbs 11:25 The generous will prosper;those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
Father Your generosity is unequalled, give us generous spirits, Lord. May we honor You with our gifts, and treasures. Give us the strength to betray the riches of this world that we will Store our treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.( Matthew 6:20)
In Jesus' Name.
Amen
