Today's "Marriage" Scripture *June 26-27, 2010*

Proverbs 16:2
People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives.

 As we navigate through life we are all responsible for our decisions and actions. God measures that which motivates us.  As husbands and fathers we have difficult decisions to make. We must measure our intent when those activities affect our families. Over the weekend I will be sending you a three part devotion on what motivates our learning, earning and burning.
 Learning: Educating ourselves is not only responsible, prudent and beneficial but expected of us from God. We can be motivated by many different things when we consider how we educate ourselves;
Why do we attend school? Matthew 6:1 “Watch out! Don't do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. Are you motivated by celebrity? Power? Or maybe notoriety? Are we seeking riches in higher education or edification of others? Exodus 35:34 And the Lord has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach their skills to others. The Lord blessed Bezalel (vs. 30). And Oholiab because their motives were to share knowledge and skills. Are you applying yourself in honour of the opportunity to better yourself, or just wasting time and money?  Proverb 17:16 It is senseless to pay tuition to educate a fool,since he has no heart for learning. Does what you are learning hold eternal value? Ecclesiastes 1:17 So I set out to learn everything from wisdom to madness and folly. But I learned firsthand that pursuing all this is like chasing the wind.How much time will it remove from your responsibilities as a husband and father? Will that sacrifice be returned to not only you, but to your family as well?
 At the end of the day, the what, how, when, how much and for how long will need to be balanced with a strong return on investment.

Lord thank You for Your Word. Psalm 90:12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life,so that we may grow in wisdom.Guide us to grow in knowledge of You, and give us motivation to build up Your body with our skills, talents and gifts.

In Jesus' name.
Amen.
