And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
There are many voices in our ears today, media, friends, family, leaders, politicians and pastors. Yet the most important voice of all is sometimes a gentle whisper; 1 Kings 19:12 And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. Dr. Phil, Oprah, Joel Osteen, Billy Graham, Ghandi, Confucius, Einstein...the list of those seemingly wise (some more obvious than others) is extensive.
To lead a family in this day in age we must weed out the external voices and listen to what God is telling us through His Word. The wrong influence, belief or doubt, can lead us astray and generations to come. The result of the Berean's hunger for Truth was such Acts 17:12 tells us: As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men.
Like the people of Berea, we should test all things according to God's Word. As leaders of our household it is critical that we know why we believe what we do.
Giver of Knowledge and Truth. Give us a hunger to know Your word and the desire to test all we hear with Scripture. Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.
