Today's Scripture *May 26, 2010*
Nehemiah 13: 26
“Wasn't this exactly what led King Solomon of Israel into sin?” I demanded. “There was no king from any nation who could compare to him, and God loved him and made him king over all Israel. But even he was led into sin by his foreign wives.
Nehemiah used the example of Solomon's mistakes to teach his people. If one of the greatest kings of Israel fell because of the influence of unbelievers, others could too. Nehemiah saw this principle in Solomon's example: Your gifts and strengths won't be of much benefit if you fail to deal with your weaknesses. Although Solomon was a great king, his marriages to foreign women brought tragedy to the whole kingdom. A tendency to sin must be recognized and dealt with swiftly; otherwise, it may overpower you and bring you down. One of the strongest reasons for reading the Bible is to learn from the mistakes and life lessons of God's people.
God, we praise You and thank You for Your Word to us.
Help us to read Your Word and learn from each and every page therein.
May we learn from the mistakes of those who have served You in the past.
And help us to be examples to others--using our mistakes to show others so that they may be spared the same mistakes in their lives.
And may we also daily learn from those around us even now. In Jesus' Name, Amen..
Be blessed!
