Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *May 21, 2010*
Ezekiel 3:1-3 The voice said to me, "Son of man, eat what I am giving you-eat this scroll! Then go and give its message to the people of Israel." So I opened my mouth, and He fed me the scroll. "Fill your stomach with this," He said. And when I ate it, it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.
Ezekiel was commanded by God (2:10) to deliver a message of funeral songs, sorrow and doom to the people of Israel. The message was obviously a difficult one to give. It's contents made Ezekiel's stomach feel bitter. Revelations 10:9 - So I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little book. And he said to me, "Take it and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey."
Sometimes in our relationships we have to deliver bad news. Correction, discipline and even rebuke (hopefully nothing as serious as Ezekiel's message). We can try to raise our children, instruct and encourage our spouses with our own words and advice but it will all fall short compared to the sweet nectar of God's Word. When we are held accountable to the Word of God, even the worst news can go down like honey when Scripture is the tool.
Sovereign Father, thank You for Your Word. You have blessed us with Solid Food. Give us the hunger for the Scriptures and Your principles that we may influence others with the sword of Truth.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
