Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *March 5, 2010*
Song of Solomon 4:12
You are my private garden, my treasure, my bride, a secluded spring, a hidden fountain.
By God's grace, April and I will be celebrating our 17th year of marriage this Saturday. March 6th. The first 7 years were horrid, we really messed things up. It is truly a miracle that we are still married! The past 10 years, however, well, lets just say they have been very exciting, hot even. See, after 7 years of trouble, strife and pain I gave up. I threw my hands in the air and quit. That's all He needed. Once I stopped, He started. God honored our faithfulness to stay together, took all of what the enemy intended for evil and is now using it for good. Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
That experience has taught me a lot about being a man, husband and father.
- Student then teacher. We need a strong foundation, start strong with God's Word. Find out how to be a man, husband and father from the Master.
Psalm 119:103 How sweet your words taste to me;they are sweeter than honey.
-Be a warrior. Fight, don't ever lay down or give up on yourself, your marriage or children. Fight until you die for what is yours from God. The enemy wants to steal it, God gave you passion, guts, courage, strength and faith for a reason. Go to war man!
-With everyone else; gentleness, patience, perseverance, kindness and love.
-Humble yourself, only and empty vessel can be filled. Pour out the pride, anger, fear and lust. Fill it with God's Word, receive His teaching. Be humble before Him. James 4: 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. ;2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
-Set the example, all eyes are on you. What you say isn't nearly as loud as what you do. James 2:14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don't show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
-Go nuts for your wife, fall head over heels. Admire her beauty, welcome her touch, listen to her voice, encourage her laugh, enjoy her body, feel her pain, protect her spirit, minister to her needs, feed her mind and melt her heart. God will bless you so richly, you will truly discover the treasures of marriage.
Romans 12:10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.
Lord we thank You for the gift of a wife and a family. Father, help us to become the husbands You created us to be. Smite the enemy of Your creation Lord with our unions. Protect us from his attacks. Fill us with Your love for one another. Praise You for trusting us with our wives, although we often fail, Love doesn't.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
