Today's Scripture *January 29th and 30th, 2010*
Galatians 2: 19-20
For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
How have our old selves been crucified with Christ?
Legally, God looks at us as if we had died with Christ. Because our sins died with Him, we are no longer condemned (Colossians 2: 13-15 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.)
Relationally, we have become one with Christ, and His experiences are ours. Our Christian life began when, in unity with Him, we died to our old life. In our daily life, we must regularly crucify sinful desires that keep us from following Christ. This, tool, is a kind of dying with Him. (Luke 9: 23-25 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed? ) And yet the focus of Christianity is not on dying but on living. Because we have been crucified with Christ, we have also been raised with Him (Romans 6:5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. )
Legally, we have been reconciled with God (2 Corinthians 5: 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. ) and we are free to grow into Christ's likeness (Romans 8:29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. )
And in our daily life, we have Christ's Resurrection power as we continue to fight sin (Ephesians 1: 19-20 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. )
We are no longer alone, for Christ lives in us--He is our power for living and our hope for the future! (Colossians 1: 27 For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory. )
O Father, we adore You! We praise You and we give You all the honor and the glory!
You have done great things for us! What a joy and a blessing to live a new life in Christ! Free from the slavery of sin and death.
We love You Lord! Guide us and guard us as we live lives dedicated to following You. In Your Mighty Name, Amen..
Have a wonderful Son-filled weekend!
