‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’
This week we learned of yet another 'Sports Hero' who has fallen into temptation. I am sure at some point the enemy whispered to him; 'I will give it all to you'. In the world, he had it all, but he had to 'kneel down and worship him'. Most every child, young and old, has someone to look up to; be it a sports icon or super hero. I for one, have always looked up to Wayne Gretzky. This is all fine and dandy except that these "hero's" are fictional or their image is shaped by a publicist or manager. Inevitably most stumble and fall, as would most of us. How do we convince our children that the Man who didn't fight back, told His defender to put his sword away and allowed Himself to be brutalized is the real hero?
We must bring the Bible to life! Share with them; that same Man came to earth for them. That same Man is part of a Unity that allowed three men to escape a fiery furnace unscathed! Who gave a sheep herder the courage, strength and training to topple a giant with a pebble and a sling from the 50 yard line! He divided a sea of water as His people fled an angry ruler! That is a real life Hero!!
Tell them the truth while the world tries to sell them a lie. Tell them that Jesus Christ is alive and fighting for their souls. Tell them about that Hero who if given the choice would hang on that cross over and over again for their souls. That is our Hero! Jesus Christ!
Jesus, we acknowledge You today as our Lord and Savior.
Thank You for rebuking the enemy when he tried to tempt You.
Thank You for being our Example; our Hero.
In Jesus name.
Amen.
