Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *September 5, 2009*

1 Samuel 16:23
And whenever the tormenting spirit from God troubled Saul, David would play the harp. Then Saul would feel better, and the tormenting spirit would go away.

From time to time I feel myself distant from God. My devotions become inconsistent, prayer time gets shorter, and grace is harder to come by. I end up treating those around me differently.
Saul kept David around because David settled Saul's tormented heart through worship. This seemed to be common knowledge as Saul's servants suggest in 1 Samuel 16: 15-16; “A tormenting spirit from God is troubling you. Let us find a good musician to play the harp whenever the tormenting spirit troubles you. He will play soothing music, and you will soon be well again.”
Have you ever had a hard heart toward something or someone? The enemy loves dissension in a marriage, God has given us worship to draw us closer to Him. When we worship Him, we imitate the angels and saints who surround His throne in heaven. We are drawn out of this life and catch a glimpse of the next. If you find yourself far from the Lord, struggling to keep peace between yourself and your spouse or children; try listening to some worship. If it can sooth the heart of Saul; surely it can restore the peace in your homes and relationships.

Thank You Lord for worship. Soften our hearts for You Father that we would hear Your voice in our lives. Restore the peace, love and passion we have for You and our spouses, Lord, that we will bring You glory and sing Your praises.
In Jesus' Name.
Amen.
