Today's "Marriage" Scripture by Jason Hunt *May 23, 2009* (May 23, 2009)
Prayer Request:
2 Corinthians 2:10-11
When you forgive this man, I forgive him, too. And when I forgive whatever needs to be forgiven, I do so with Christ's authority for your benefit, so that Satan will not out-smart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.
When we dig in and refuse to give any ground we think we are winning, the Adrenalin that pumps through our bodies keeps us convinced that what we are fighting for is worth something-- That we need to out wait our opponent until they concede. Even in times when there is a legitimate offence we need to ignore that desire to hold onto it. Satan snickers and scoffs at us when we choose not to forgive one another. Un-forgiveness becomes resentment, then retaliation, followed by anger and hatred. Manifesting into violence and even murder. When I keep un-forgiveness in my heart I have to ask; am I being out smarted by the enemy, when I realize the answer I am always embarrassed and see that I have fallen for an all too familiar scheme.
A good marriage is the union of two good forgivers.
Ruth Bell Graham Father in Heaven, You are worthy of all adoration and praise. We are blessed that You sent Your Son to conquer sin and death. Give us the discernment to see the work of the enemy, grant us the strength to resist the temptation of un-forgiveness, and the grace to follow Your example. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
