Today's Scripture *May 20, 2009*

Exodus 34: 6-7
The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out,
 “Yahweh! The Lord!
The God of compassion and mercy!
   I am slow to anger
And filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations.
I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.
But I do not excuse the guilty.
      I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren;
   The entire family is affected—
Even children in the third and fourth generations.”

Many people think the God of the Old Testament is a God of wrath, only to be feared.
These words from God revealed to Moses the very heart or essence of God's nature (Exodus 33: 19 The Lord replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose. ).
What do we learn from these assurances to Moses? God is merciful. Gracious, loving, forgiving. Don't accept anyone's argument that the God of the Old Testament is merely vengeful. Instead, remember that God is "slow to anger", and His love cannot be diminished.

Lord, we thank You for Your unfailing love. Your mercy and compassion.
Your tenderness, and Your grace. May we always remember that we serve a God who loves us each so very much!
Help us to live lives, O God, worthy of being called children of the Most High God.
In Jesus' Name, Amen..

God bless you!
April
