Ashley's Today's Scripture *February 22, 2009*
Leviticus 19:1-4
The Lord also said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy. “Each of you must show great respect for your mother and father, and you must always observe my Sabbath days of rest. I am the Lord your God. “Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.
In these four verses God commands us to obey our parents and not to idolize. It is hard to obey our parents sometime, but when we obey them no matter what it pleases God. Often times as children, teenagers---we want to do our own things, but God commands us to obey our mom and dad and it not only pleases God, but helps us please our earthly fathers and mothers.
When you read the word "idolize" what do you think of ? Do you think of gold statues, and false gods ? Those are things that people do idolize, but even as a Christian we idolize things. We can idolize television , the computer, and maybe people in our lives that we really like or our favorite pop star. Even though we might not bow down in worship to these things, we might "love" them and be over protective of those things. God tells us not to trust in idols.
Dear Lord,
I thank You for this week and the days that You put ahead. Thank You for our families and friends. I pray that as we go through this week we can remember this Scripture and remember not to idolize. I pray that You will be our Ultimate and that You will be the most important thing in our lives, not the computer, not our televisions, not jobs or the money we make. You Lord! You Alone!
In Jesus' Name We Pray
Amen
