Today's Scripture *September 15, 2008*

1 Kings 2:3-4
Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go. If you do this, then the Lord will keep the promise he made to me. He told me, ‘If your descendants live as they should and follow me faithfully with all their heart and soul, one of them will always sit on the throne of Israel.’

David stressed to Solomon the need to make God and His laws the center of personal life and government in order to preserve the Kingdom, as God had promised to do in 2 Samuel 17. This promise had two parts. One part was conditional and the other was unconditional.
God's conditional promise was that Davis and his descendants would remain in office as kings only when they honor and obey Him. When David's descendants failed to do this, they lost the throne as it says in 2 Kings 25. God's unconditional promise was that David's line would go forever . This was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ, a descendant of David whom was the Eternal Son of God as it says in Romans 1:3-4 The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.
David, whose life exemplified obedience, gave well-seasoned advice to his son, the next king. It would be up to Solomon to follow it.

Heavenly Father, we love You and adore You!
Thank You for your promises to us in Your Living Word.
May we live by Your Word.
When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight,
For I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. (Jeremiah 15:16)
In Jesus' Name, Amen..

Have a truly blessed week in Him!
Love April
